4D Inc., publishers of the 4th Dimension RAD/RDBMS Environment and 4D WebSTAR Server Suite, says that 4D v6.8 will offer support for Mac OS X.

It will be a free upgrade for all registered 4D v6.7 developers and for developers who purchase and register 4D v6.7 by April 30. You'll be able to download it this Wednesday. What's more, 4D v6.8 will let current customers migrate their 4D applications without modifying any underlying code. The update includes an integrated TCP/IP network component, new contextual menu interface, and more, according to Brendan Coveney, president and CEO of 4D.

New features in 4D v6.8 include a new contextual menu in the methods editor for single-click insertion of methods, fields, and commands, easier plug-in administration, and new commands and constants. Coveney said that newly reinforced security in 4D v6.8 protects component code and makes deployment easier, and that new integration of the TCP/IP component in 4D v6.8 further simplifies administration.

New user interface enhancements include floating, dockable toolbars under Mac OS X, support for the Apple Viewer for online help menus on the Mac. 4D v6.8 also follows the Aqua look and feel.
